Godly Truths
One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.
Proverbs 16:32
Today’s Truth
Clearing the Room Is Not Strength
Proverbs 16:32 · World English Bible
You are still in the bay, and he is still at his stall. The impact wrench sits where you set it down too hard, and the socket left a mark in your palm. He asked twice about the part. The second time your voice went up and the sentence came out mean. He nodded and turned back to the bench. The compressor cycles. You tell yourself he should have listened the first time. Your jaw is still set, and that is the part you will not name.
The proverb does not measure a man by the room he can dominate. You have been counting strength by who went quiet, and Yahweh is not impressed that you can empty a bay with your voice. The text puts a governed spirit above a conquered city. That is the plainer work, and it is the work that makes you safe to stand beside. If they have to guess which version of you walks in, they stop bringing you what matters.
The cost is a short walk back across the concrete. You say the true thing, and you leave out the speech about how long the day was. Christ is not asking you to become harmless. He is asking you to become a man whose temper can be trusted when nobody is keeping score. The Lord will not leave you as the loudest man in the stall. He can teach your mouth to wait. A man people trust is made in the minute after he has already been wrong.
Today’s Challenge
Before you leave the bay, tell him in one sentence what you should not have said, and do not add why you were tired.
Pray
Father, I know the sound of my voice when I want to win. Rule my spirit before I take another room, and make me a man they can trust with an ordinary hour. Do not let me call my temper strength. Amen.
