You can feel poor with a full fridge if the feed is louder than your actual life. Paul is not romanticizing scarcity. He is telling you the truth about the scoreboard: you brought nothing in, you will carry nothing out, and godliness with contentment is great gain. That sentence will offend the part of you that treats restlessness as virtue.
Contentment is not the enemy of excellent work. It is the enemy of the itch that makes every raise feel like a brief ceasefire. Food and clothing, the basics, were enough to unmask how much of your anxiety is theater.
