So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

Today’s Truth
Slow Down the Reply
James 1:19 · World English Bible
Your thumbs are faster than your soul. A slight in the thread, a tone in the meeting, a look across the table, and you are already drafting the reply that will feel like justice for four minutes and like regret for a week. James is not asking you to become passive. He is asking you to become a man who hears first.
Swift to hear is not a personality. It is a practice: close the laptop, let the other person finish, wait before you speak. Slow to anger does not mean you never get hot. It means the heat does not get to drive. The men who wreck rooms are rarely the strongest in them. They are just the quickest.
You already know the sentence you want to send. Do not send it. The gap between the spark and the word is where you become someone different.
Today’s Challenge
The next time you feel the heat, wait ten minutes and ask one clarifying question before you offer any opinion.
Pray
Father, make me swift to hear and slow to speak. Put a guard on my mouth today, especially with the people who know how to find the nerve. Amen.
