Godly Truths
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
Today’s Truth
Stop Waiting on His Apology
1 John 1:9 · World English Bible
The phone stays face down on the workbench, and you have not said his name since the fight in the driveway. The wrench is back in the drawer. You were right about the money. You have told that story on the drive home until it feels like the whole truth, and your jaw sets when his truck passes the end of the street. What you will not say is the sentence you threw after he turned his back, and how you have been living off it.
You have been treating forgiveness like a favor he has not earned. John does not start with his apology. He starts with what you confess. Faithfulness belongs to the Father, and so does the cleansing. You don't get to sand the sin down to a fair comeback before you name it. Keeping the grievance in your pocket lets you stay the wounded one, and it leaves the stain exactly where you put it.
Saying it to the Father won't make him pull into the driveway. You may still feel the heat in your face at supper. The cost is losing the story where you are only the one who was wronged. The mercy is that you don't have to stay dirty to stay right. Christ already carried what your hands won't open, and the hard release frees you whether or not it ever reaches him.
Today’s Challenge
Before tonight, say out loud to the Father the exact sentence you threw, and leave that thread unopened for the rest of the day.
Pray
Father, I have kept his fault so I would not have to name mine. Forgive the sentence I threw and the months I fed it. Cleanse me, and teach me a release that does not wait on him. Amen.
