Godly Truths

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Today’s Truth

The Better Version Is Still a Lie

1 John 1:9 · World English Bible

You are sitting in the truck with the engine off, because walking into the shop means facing what you did yesterday. You told the man the part was in. You knew the shelf was empty. He drove across town on his day off, and you watched his face when he opened the box and found nothing. You have been rewriting the story in your head since the lot went dark. A delay. A mix-up. Somebody else's mistake. The better version almost sounds true if you say it fast enough.

John does not leave you a back door. Confession is not a cleaner draft of the same lie. You bring the thing to the Father as it was, and you stop bargaining for a version that keeps your name intact. He is faithful when you are not. He is righteous, which means He does not shrug at the empty box or the hour that man lost. The cleansing is His work. Your instinct is to manage the damage until it looks small. Managing it is how the failure gets a second life.

You still owe the man the truth, and you still owe the shop the part. Forgiveness is not a receipt that cancels the drive across town. The cost stays. What mercy changes is that you do not have to walk back in performing innocence. Jesus already knows the shelf was empty. You can keep wearing the edited story, or you can take the cleansing as a gift and still pay for what the lie cost.

Today’s Challenge

Before tonight, confess the lie to the Father without the softer version, then tell the customer the shelf was empty.

Pray

Father, I have been editing the story so I can live with myself. I confess the lie as it was, not as I wish it had gone. Forgive me, clean what I cannot clean, and give me the nerve to tell the man the truth today. Amen.
