The Quiet Bill for Looking

You are in the van before the first job, engine off, and the phone is doing its work. A man you used to work beside posted a new truck and a finished porch, and you have looked at it twice. Your boots are still damp from yesterday. The cup in the holder has gone cold. Nobody in the lot can see what you are doing, and that is the trick. You pay for their picture with the morning you have not started, and you call it nothing because your wallet never opened.

Your instinct is to catch up, or at least to feel the gap until it sets the mood for the route. That instinct is conformity with a phone in its hand. You are not meant to be pressed into the shape of this world. A mind made new is how you test what is actually good and what pleases God. Another man's porch cannot run that test. If you keep taking your shape from what he posted, you will spend the day proving his life instead of testing the one the Lord has put in your hands.

Comparison is a quiet tax, and you have been paying it before the key turns. It does not make his truck yours. It only makes your hands slower on work that is actually yours. The mercy is not that your life will start looking like his. The mercy is that the Father is not ashamed of the van, the damp boots, or the work nobody is posting. Christ already settled what you are worth. A renewed mind can receive this day without renting another man's life.
