Work Like Someone Is Watching

Colossians 3:23 · World English Bible

A lot of men only work as hard as the nearest set of eyes. Slack off when the manager is out. Half-finish the thing no one will check. Paul relocates the audience: work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. That sentence either offends you or it frees you.

It offends the part that wants a shortcut. It frees the part that is tired of performing for people who may never notice. Hidden excellence is not wasted if God is the One you are actually working for. Sloppy work is a spiritual issue long before it is a professional one.

Today's task, the unglamorous one, is a chance to tell the truth about who you think is in the room. Do it all the way.

Today’s Challenge

Pick the task you have been doing at seventy percent. Finish it completely, as if the Lord will inspect it.

Pray

Lord, I have been working for the wrong audience. Teach me to work heartily for You in the hidden places, without needing a man to notice. Amen.
